Join Sexpectations for an evening of facts, fun, and a little friendly competition to see who's "The Best at Sex." We'll cover topics from history to anatomy to pop culture come hang for a good time!
Portions of the night's proceeds will go towards Sexpectations, a Black and brown led Chicago non profit working to bring inclusive, pleasure-centered, accurate sex education to the youth of Chicago.
Noche De Kumbia with Eva Maria
Eva Maria “La Gabachita Cumbiambera” is a Mexican-American DJ born and raised on the northwest side of Chicago. Known for her vibrant and energetic sets, Eva Maria crosses boundaries by infusing elements of rap and punk with her love for traditional Cumbia. She celebrates her Poblana heritage by blending the old with the new, merging traditional Cumbia with Cumbias Rebajadas and Cumbias Oscuras in her DJ performances.

Frank Leone of Fool’s Gold Records is a self-produced multidisciplinary artist from the woods South of Chicago weaving jazz, R&B, and hip hop into his work. His ability to portray raw emotions in all its stillness is apparent on FISH, an album ripe with lush instrumentation and delicate patina. Collaborators such as BADBADNOTGOOD’s Chester Hansen, Coco O. (Quadron, Tyler the Creator) and Hrlum lend a few brush strokes to these songs of longing, as Frank portrays the great pink valley that is FISH.

Ashina is a DJ and beat-maker based in Chicago. Ashina can be found mixing disco, house, soul, and music from various parts of the world. As a producer, Ashina is interested in exploring atmospheres and eccentric grooves, as well as concepts relating to science fiction. These recordings can be found on the Chicago-based label, Sovereign State.

Southside born and raised, Nate Carter was magnetized by DJ culture long before he ever attempted to perform. As a selector with over fifteen years in the game, the artist professionally known as Jivefresh - a veteran of intimate speakeasies, festival mainstages and everything in between - credits his fellow DJs for being as inspiring to his journey as the music itself. His preferred sound aspires to the energy of a basement house party, encompassing a 70s-90s aesthetic of funk, boogie, boom bap, the soulquarian era, groove heavy electronic and tasteful edits/reworks. With a style known as #ModernVintage, a DJ Jivefresh set is open format by design, intentionally unplanned, curated live and intended to find the middle ground between music that’s timeless and music that inevitably will be.

Chicago-born and raised, Desma represents the city's underground pulse with her signature fusion of deep tech, minimal, jackin' house, tech house and latin tech. Her high energy groove-heavy sets have landed her on major stages including Beyond Wonderland and North Coast, as well as Chicago's top venues like Spybar, Prysm and Smoke and Mirrors. With every performance, Desma brings a fresh, dynamic take on the house sound that defines her city.

Fess Grandiose
Fess Grandiose is a DJ and producer from Chicago who has been playing records and producing beats for over 15 years. Fess has held numerous residencies in Chicago, including Open Beats, a monthly recurring open mic night for electronic music performers that he launched in the city. Spinning since 1986, from Chicago Hyde Park neighborhood, Mark Fuller aka DJ Mark Flava, aka Mark Flava, has evolved into one of the most gifted performers within the Hip Hop, Club House, R&B, and Reggae Cultures. Some DJ’s play records and some play tricks, but the versatile skills of Mark Flava will inevitably and consistently move any crowd to a frenzy—a unique and overlooked skill that only few DJ’s have mastered. When Mark Flava explores his mental library of records, the resulting realm of musical sound is unfathomable “flava”. With an insatiable desire to advocate for improved visibility and opportunity for his mentors and peers, In 2018 Nate moved beyond performance to launch Sounds Like Fun; a bespoke curation initiative dedicated to pairing equitable & ethical venues/events with a multi-generational group of the best DJs working from a growing roster of over 60 artists with regional, national and international exposure, all of whom have deep connections with or roots in Chicago. Under the banner of Sounds Like Fun, Nate has worked as curator and music director for event clients like BPM Music Group, Revel Global Events and Salesforce, and spaces such as The Darling, Chit Chat Lounge, McCormick Place and The Walk in, where he's anchored the music program with Logan Square's longest running monthly event since 2017.
While maintaining select availability for savvy private event clients, Jivefresh can be found performing regularly at over a dozen destination lounges, restaurants and hotels in neighborhoods throughout the Chicagoland area, since 2009.
Resavoir
Will Miller is a jazz trumpeter and composer by training – first via Chicago Public Schools, then Oberlin Conservatory. As an instrumentalist he’s played on recordings by Chance The Rapper, Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, and for several years was a regular member of the indie band Whitney. But since 2016 he has been moving more and more in the direction of all around “producer” – working with an expanded palette of synths, pianos, live and programmed drums in addition to his MIDI-augmented trumpet, he has developed a signature cinematic soul-jazz sound rooted in hip-hop structures, heard through his work on tracks for Eryn Allen Kane, Whitney, Knox Fortune, and SZA’s recently-released album SOS (which spent 10 weeks as the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart).
