His preferred sound aspires to the energy of a basement house party, encompassing a 70s-90s aesthetic of funk, boogie, boom bap, the soulquarian era, groove heavy electronic and tasteful edits/reworks. With an insatiable desire to advocate for improved visibility and opportunity for his mentors and peers, In 2018 Nate moved beyond performance to launch Sounds Like Fun; a bespoke curation initiative dedicated to pairing equitable & ethical venues/events with a multi-generational group of the best DJs working from a growing roster of over 60 artists with regional, national and international exposure, all of whom have deep connections with or roots in Chicago. Under the banner of Sounds Like Fun, Nate has worked as curator and music director for event clients like BPM Music Group, Revel Global Events and Salesforce, and spaces such as The Darling, Chit Chat Lounge, McCormick Place and The Walk in, where he's anchored the music program with Logan Square's longest running monthly event since 2017.

A product of the Miyagiverse, DJ Shal & Eli the Saint are two old souls set out with one goal: to keep the main, the main thing. Music, the reverence for, appreciation of, and a deep need for the catharsis it provides, is always the top priority in their sets. Though coming from different paths, they share a mutual enthusiasm for the music that was introduced to them at an early age and with the passing of time, has been strengthened, and fine-tuned.

A Chicago native and avid record collector, DJ Eli the Saint is varied. His father raised him to the soulscape sounds of the 60s & 70s. Shal is a vinyl DJ, audio engineer, and trumpet player from Chicago. His love for music was found at a young age through his grandmother’s living room stereo playing WNUA 95.5 and Illmatic booming in the backseat of his dad’s car. Inspired by his grandmother's mixtapes from the late '80s to early 2000s', his sets blend nostalgic soul, funk, and dance music with contemporary jazz, hip-hop, and neo-soul.
