Marc Davis is a Chicago DJ whose career began in the early 1980s in the South East Side of the city. It was by going to see the pioneers like Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy that he started going record shopping and practicing his skills.
As a DJ, Marc Davis was one of the first out of Chicago to play eclectic records in his sets overseas with Brazilian, African sounds, jazz fusion, house, and disco music while mixing it Chicago style. Many consider this a door opener for taste maker DJs like Sadar Bahar, Lee Collins, Rahaan and Mark Grusane to soar. Although he is still a credible name on the scene, Marc Davis continues to go underground and dig for more rare records and continues to play in several European nightclubs and festivals since the 1990s.
Since 2006, Marc Davis also manages his own label Black Pegasus on which he releases vinyl records in (very) limited series. It is always about obscure or even unpublished pieces prized by collectors. Marc is passionate about the search for recordings on cassettes, reel to reel tapes, acetates and test presses of music unknown to the general public. His releases go from Funk to Disco to obscure pieces of the golden era of Hip Hop. Black Pegasus’ Disco and Funk releases have been anthems in such international music festivals as World Wide, The Chosen Few, Dekmantel, Sunset Beach, and SouthPort. While his hip hop 7 inch (45’s) doughnuts have been exclusive releases by legends like Common, Tim Dog and UltraMagnetic.
Today, Marc Davis aspires to continue to mark the scene of his imprint through his work. His label has several upcoming releases already scheduled for the end of 2019. He also plans to tour Europe end 2019-early 2020 to become better known to the public outside the United States and disseminate more widely his music.
